How To Write An Awesome Essay About Your Career Goals

How To Write An Awesome Essay About Your Career Goals Subsequent sentences should describe specific examples that relate to the point you are arguing in the paragraph. Like the last sentence in the introduction, the last sentence in this paragraph should be transitional and lead into the argument you will present in the next body paragraph. After writing your conclusion, you might think that you have completed your essay. Before you consider this a finished work, you must pay attention to all the small details. On WiseEssays.com, we can meet any requirements of yours! If you doubt how many words should your 5 paragraph essay be, entrust that issue to us. We are ready to offer you the best academic assistance on the web and guarantee the result you need. The third part of the five-paragraph essay should present the second most compelling argument in support of your thesis. Use examples to support this argument in subsequent sentences and end the paragraph with a transitional sentence into your third and final body paragraph. The second part of the essay should be the first body paragraph, and it should present the strongest point that proves your thesis statement. The first sentence in this paragraph should tie into the transitional sentence in the introduction. Your word processing software and settings may result in slightly different pages counts, but with conventional page margins and a 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font you can expect similar output. Examples of 2000 word count pages might be longer for blog posts, college essays or term papers, and operating manuals. The final part of the five-paragraph essay is the conclusion. The introduction should attract the reader’s attention and show the focus of your essay. You can use shocking information, dialogue, a story, a quote, or a simple summary of your topic. Reread your paper and check to see if it makes sense. Make sure that sentence flow is smooth and add phrases to help connect thoughts or ideas. Check your essay for grammar and spelling mistakes. Now that you have developed your thesis and the overall body of your essay, you must write an introduction. Because to come up even with such simple writing, one needs to understand how to organize it and what to include in its parts. Put your thesis in one of the first three sentences of the introduction if you are writing a 3-4 paragraph essay, and in the first sentence if you are writing a 1-2 paragraph essay. If there is no way to cut down your essay without keeping your argument clear and strong, you must simplify your argument. In short essays, it is often better to have a broader thesis that you can support with one or two specific examples. This way, readers can infer implications from your thesis that you did not explicitly state. While we always recommend not getting sidetracked in a 5-6 paragraph essay, it is even more crucial that you do not allow yourself to stray away from the point in a short essay. Any sentence that is not directly relevant to your thesis not only weakens your argument but also takes up valuable space. The answer is around 4 pages single spaced, and 8 pages double spaced. Your strongest points should be the first and last paragraphs within the body, with the others falling in the middle. Also, make sure that your paragraph order makes sense. If your essay is describing a process, such as how to make a great chocolate cake, make sure that your paragraphs fall in the correct order. Review the instructions for your essay, if applicable. Many teachers and scholarship forms follow different formats, and you must double check instructions to ensure that your essay is in the desired format. This paragraph should restate the thesis statement, but the restatement must not be a duplicate of the thesis statement itself. The conclusion should also summarize the three major points you addressed in each body paragraph. The final body paragraph is the fourth part of the five-paragraph essay, and this section should present your weakest argument in support of your thesis statement. Although this may be your weakest argument, do not suggest this in the essay or overcompensate by providing too many examples; structure it in the same way you did the previous two body paragraphs. End the third body paragraph with a concluding statement that makes it obvious to the reader that this is the final major point you will make. No one would be surprised if we say that an essay is the most common paper for students to prepare. And, in this guide, we will dwell on the basics of that assignment and discuss a five-paragraph essay and its length, in particular.

3 Ways To Write An Essay Outline Doing so will bring you close to the sensible word limit. We look at the themes that came up during Josh’s reflection. He found himself writing a lot about mistakes, public performance anxiety, and the pressure to get a piece just right. Focusing in, Josh thought about a specific piece which helped him get over some performance anxiety, so he’ll write about learning that piece and facing the fear. As you saw in the prompts above, we’re big advocates of beginning with a particular story or anecdote. If you’re well below that limit, it’s worth asking yourself why your personal statement is so short. Check it against the outlines we’ve worked through in this post. Has your essay demonstrated change over time, or personal growth? Your essay will always go beyond the anecdote, but an anecdote offers a reader an easy, smooth way into your personal statement. There are a number of ways to approach freewriting, and all of them are meant to keep you limber, loose, and free. Is there a prevalent belief in your family or community with which you disagree? In case you aren't sure about how to put your essay together, here is a helpful breakdown on how to write an essay in English. Your Personal Statement is the single loudest ‘qualitative’ element of your application. It’s the way you communicate with the admissions committee as a person and as a potential member of the campus community. With more people applying to colleges every year, admissions officers know they can have their pick of bright and motivated students. In addition to seeing your talents and achievements on paper, they need a chance to imagine what you might be like as a walking, talking human being. Ensure each paragraph flows seamlessly onto the next. Before writing the first draft, decide what ideas you would like to reveal and match them with the information you’ve collected. You may need to do further research before sitting down to write the first draft. Even if you have collected a lot of material, you may face difficulties. Tell the story of an argumentâ€"cordial or notâ€"that you’ve had with someone about this issue. Tell the story of a time you are proud of how you handled conflict in relation to this disagreement. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design. In order to get into your dream school, you’ll need not only great grades and test scores but also a strong personal statement. Keep in mind the goal of the essay and the benefit you want to come of it. Sometimes, the hardest part of the process is to pick the topic and start writing . Perhaps you’ve told a story but forgotten to reflect on it. The important thing is to ensure that you’ve fully inhabited each ‘element’ of the successful Common App Essay, as noted in this guide. For some, it’s easier to concentrate in the morning, while others do their best work at night. Some prefer to hand write the first draft on the paper, while for others, typing is easier.

Filial Duty and Cultural Anatopism Across Generations in Bound Feet and Western Dress - Literature Essay Samples

Bound Feet and Western Dress is a dual memoir, telling the story of Pang-mei Natasha Chang and Chang Yu-i, a great-niece and great-aunt who share their stories of growing up in the Chang family, each taking turns narrating the story in the first person. The Bedford Glossary of Literary Terms defines this as a point of view â€Å"in which an ‘I’ or ‘we’ serves as the narrator† (Murfin). Pang-Mei and Yu-i’s dual narratorship of the memoir Bound Feet And Western Dress is used to show how each woman’s struggle to reconcile Chinese traditions with her own Western ambitions is similar, as displayed by their sense of filial duty and the feeling of cultural anatopism. Filial duty is a major theme throughout the book, both in Yu-i’s life and Pang-Mei’s. According to Yu-i, â€Å"In the Chinese way, your parents have your best interest in mind† (Chang 68). This philosophy affects every aspect of a young Chinese person’s life.Yu-i’s sense of filial duty leads her to marry Hsu Chih-mo, the man who ultimately leaves her for another woman and asks her to abort their child. When Yu-i is asked what she thinks of marrying Hsu Chih-mo, she replies that it is not important. Of this statement, Yu-i explains, â€Å" according to Chinese tradition: I would marry the man my family had chosen for me† (66). Despite her own reservations about being married so young, Yu-i must follow her parents’ wishes because it is her filial duty. Pang-Mei also feels this sense of duty regarding her own romantic relationships, as evinced when she speaks of her parents’ implication that she needs to marry a Chinese man:  " I felt torn in two, more uncertain that ever of whom I might find to love† (66). Both women, despite the change in marital customs over time, felt obligated to marry a man of the same ethnicity that their families approved of, even at the risk of jeopardizing their Western goals. This sense of filial duty also extends to one’s married family, and both Yu-i and Pang-mei felt the pressure to be a good daughter-in-law. Yu-i claims that her mother instructed her to never say no, and that â€Å" what ever happened between my husband and me, I had to treat my in-laws the same† (84). Several decades later, Pang-Mei says, â€Å"My mother told me that marriage was all about compromise†¦ when I married a man I also married his family† (82). These women shared similar feelings of filial duty, despite the generational gap. In some ways, the idea that Chinese parents always have their children’s best interest at heart is comforting to Yu-i and Pang-mei. Both women know that their parents want what is best for them, but they do not always agree with their parents’ guidance. Yu-i elaborates on this feeling when she speaks of the way she would treat her own daughter: â€Å"I would not bind her feet and restrict her from studying† (92). Yu-i’s desire to gain knowledge and be free is limited by her mother and father’s plans for her future. She is allowed to go to school but is not allowed to finish because she must get married. When Pang-mei endures taunting at the hands of her classmates, her parents tell her to insult them, or tell that they wished they could also be Chinese. Pang-mei felt like this was an awful idea, but later in life she realized â€Å"it was their pride trying to guide and protect me† (54). Her parents’ response to the insults didn’t make sense to Pang-mei until later in life, just as it took Yu-i time to understand her parents’ decision to marry her to Hsu Chih-mo. Anatopism is defined by Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary as â€Å"out of its proper place†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (â€Å"Anatopism†). Culturally, both Yu-i and Pang-Mei feel out of place with their Chinese traditions because of their Western ambitions. This is shown when Yu-i claims, â€Å"I was born into changing times and had two faces†¦part of me that stayed East and the other that looked West† (Chang 15). Yu-i struggles with her desire to become an educated woman and her duty to follow the path of the Chang women. When she speaks of the women in her life with bound feet, she effectively sets herself apart from them, thus furthering the distance between Yu-i and traditional female roles in the mind of the reader. Pang-mei shares a similar feeling when reading about the accomplishments of her male ancestors: â€Å"I did not know to what extent I dared identify with them†¦ Chang women were clearly held to a different standard†¦ I worried where that left meâ⠂¬ (39). Pang-mei’s concern about being a woman and becoming as educated as the Chang men is the same struggle that her great-aunt had faced decades earlier, despite how society had progressed in the time that elapsed.Yu-i felt that her unbound feet set her apart from other women in China and set her free tofollow her ambitions, to an extent. However, as she grew older, she says, â€Å"my own big feet lost their magic for me. I had thought they made me modern, but instead they became my enemy†¦ they could not make me educated. Nor could they make my husband care for me† (89). Yu-i, having once thought that unbound feet made her special, began to feel that they prevented her from being accepted by her in-laws and the people of Xiashi, while still not being Western enough to please Hsu Chih-mo. Pang-mei’s feeling of cultural anatopism stems from her lack of connection with China. She mentions â€Å"As the first generation of my family born in the States, I was torn between two cultures†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (4). Later in the book, she wonders if she is less Chinese because she has been raised in the West (110). Pang-mei has access to the Western world and education that Yu-i so desperately longed for, but she still feels a similar cultural disconnect to the kind that Yu-i felt as a result of her unbound feet. Pang-mei also worries that she is an outsider, just as Yu-i felt like an outsider during her time in the West with Hsu Chih-mo. Pang-mei writes of Chinese students who socialized with each other, â€Å"†¦ They always looked so comfortable†¦ whenever I was with other Chinese, I could not help but feel†¦ concerned†¦ that others would think we were foreigners†¦ † (111). Despite having been born and raised in America, Pang-mei still felt like an outsider when she associated with other Chinese students. This feeling of separation is similar to Yu-i’s feeling of separation. Both Pang-mei and Yu-i felt the pressure of Chinese traditions when trying to pursue their ambitions in the West. In her final few words, Yu-i tells Pang-mei, â€Å"Now I come to the end of my story, and in a way it is you: you are the end of my story† (201). Despite the years that elapsed between their youth, these women felt filial duty and cultural anatopism in their upbr inging and young adulthood, which affected their Western ambitions. Suicide Is An Act That Knows No Boundaries - 1826 Words

INTRODUCTION Many people consider suicide a taboo subject best left in the shadows. A dark subject not often understood, and more times than not, occurring with no logical reason for the â€Å"why† a person would be willing to intentionally take their own life. Suicide is an act that knows no boundaries. Regardless of whether an individual is young, old, male, female, black, white, rich or poor, suicide has a way of finding itself into many families’ lives. When suicide is the cause of death, many families suffer difficulty finding closure, because they most likely will never know the reason their loved one decided to succumb to their own inner demons. The people left behind may spend the remainder of their lives wondering if there was anything they could have done to have prevented such a tragic loss of life. According to the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, â€Å"For every American who dies by suicide, many others attempt suicide, and many more suffer t he despair that leads them to consider taking their own life.† This tragedy is even more overwhelming when the victim is a child. Sadly, according to a 2015 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report by Erin Sullivan, et al. from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the second leading cause of death in the United States of teens/adolescents between the ages of 10 to 24, only exceeded by accidents (unintentional injuries). Mainframe Mainframe is referred to the cabinet which contains the central processing unit of a computer. The most recent type of mainframes can support thousands of multiple workers at the same time. The main difference between the mainframe and the supercomputer is the processing speed of the computers [2]. The supercomputer would put all its resources into making one process faster and completing it early where as the mainframe will equally distribute the working of the processor among the different users connected to it. The operating system used in a mainframe consists of internal working consisting of memories, processors, and devices with the availability of file management system [2] Minicomputers The minicomputers are the group of computers which can support the working of almost 200 workers simultaneously. Workstations These computers are used by engineering students to produce work assignments in the field of software development, desktop publishing and other types of software usage which require the use of moderate resources enough to run the softwares without any hindrance [4]. They come equipped with a separate ram and storage place like a hard drive. They are connected to the internet with the help of local area network. The computers are equipped with a high speed RAM and better graphics so that working on different softwares does not make the system slow. There can be different components which can be added to a workstation [4]. They range from keyboards, mouse, speakers and even the connection to all the other computers connected on the same server. The network created is common for all the systems. Personal computers These computers are a group of systems which is used by an individual to separately work for their personal use. The Tokyo String Quartet free essay sample

After watching their fine performance at Jordan Hall in February, I marveled at the Tokyo String Quartets magical musicianship. Not only does each of the four performers play with command and complete control of their instruments, but they play with sensitivity as well. The ensemble opened the concert with an early Haydn quartet (Opus 20, No. 2), which was played in a delightfully spirited manner. The heart of the concert followed, with Benjamin Brittens Quartet No. 2, a complex but startling work written in response to World War II. The piece was introduced by Peter Oundjian, the groups first violinist, who informed the audience that at last he, being British, had convinced his otherwise Asian ensemble to perform this British work. After intermission, Beethovens Quartet No. 7 closed the concert, and proving themselves to be true professionals, the group performed the challenging work without a flaw. The tempos did feel a little fast throughout the first and last movements, but the players worked hard to stay in control. Chose one argument and write about it Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Chose one argument and write about it - Essay Example The happiness, however, is subject to fall. This makes the second premise of the argument where Aristotle proclaims that, in the event that the noble happiness disappears, the recovery is a challenge. Happiness, therefore, is a strong virtue that needs consistent and careful observation to limit change to extreme conditions. The authority of academic minds reveals various dilutions that attempt to shift the point of judgment from happiness to experimental proof. In this light, the paper will attempt to examine, these objections to come up with a more preferable conclusion that misjudging Aristotle. Objectors to the premises Happiness is an activity of the soul that varies from person to person depending on a range of factors. This includes personality and surrounding environment (Ross and Lesley 56). It, however, is not clear whether happiness arises because of training or divine intervention. In addition, the element is not easy to predict linking it to either learning or habituatio n. Detractors can take advantage of this argument to contradict Aristotle’s first premise. In this regards, the essay assembles a series of surface interjectors that subject happiness to destiny rather than a transit mobile element. The Earl of Shaftesbury was a supporter of constitutional monarchy who has non-ending support for the human nature. According to him, Humans are essentially good with limited problems regarding life. He regards moral virtues to be innate and natural with no link to religious doctrines. This is an objection to Aristotle’s Perception of humans. The antique objection furthermore focuses on the potential of goodness relating happiness to other life elements. This contradiction causes a shift in understanding for the Aristotle’s pessimistic life in the study for happiness. Replies to objections The retrospective objections render interest of independence and strength to Aristotle’s second premise. A mature man is responsible for th e judgments he makes. Furthermore, he is liable to the various convictions that come because of his actions. This makes the pursuit of progress and peace affect the natural peace that people enjoy. From this perspective, the argument by Aristotle holds no water as people must use the environment to succeed in the setbacks. The life trials and errors furthermore abstract contemporary happiness to resistance of the future. The detractors, therefore, disqualify the veto claims by Aristotle who seems to be suppressed by sadism and spewing thirst for reasoning. This is withstanding the various pre-existing conditions for noble actions by men that guide their rational judgment. Buddha, for example, argues that happiness succeeds an extremely harsh asceticism, which attracted by sensual pleasure. This makes happiness a meditative life and not a virtue (Ross and Lesley 77). Therefore, according to the detractors, happiness is a usually found virtue that does not have boundaries. Theoretical observations Notably, there is no amount of force, which can control a man. It, therefore, is wrong for Aristotle’s detractors to substitute cooperation with authoritarianism in their argument. Whether acquired by habituation or learning, happiness comes with divine providence. It, therefore, must be based on set criteria of resonance. This makes life a non-chance event that entrust efficient definition of happiness to prosperity and misfortunes. From this perspe

The Role of Mainstream Media Limited in Contemporary Globalized Essay

The Role of Mainstream Media Limited in Contemporary Globalized Society - Essay Example The power today lands in the hands of people who have become both the architects and focus of media, and are redefining globalization. The key question that this essay, analyses and addresses, is whether the role of mainstream media, in light of that has been limiting in today’s globalized world and how the power-shift towards social-media is affecting mainstream media. Introduction Of the three dimensions of globalization: political, economical and cultural, cultural globalization has been the face of globalization. It is partly because of concerns with economic and political forms of globalization (Robertson and White) and partly because of the active role that media has played in it. The speech of Boris Yelsen on the fall of Soviet Union, broadcasted by CNN satellite has been identified as the decisive moment of advent of globalization (Beck). Since then, Media has played an important role in defining, shaping and amplifying globalization. Marx and Engels contemplated that print media, known as the Fourth Estate, would be an important piece in the establishment of a democratic public body that catalyzes social change (Kellner and Pierce). The rise of global media with cable television, news networks and privatization of media further brought the world together. A number of networks became global in their outreach like CNN, MTV, HBO, ESPN, TNT, Nickelodeon, the Cartoon Network, Discovery, Disney, and many of these channels were translated and adopted as per local languages and cultures. Some scholars, however, have criticized this influence, as cultural imperialism as Western culture has been dominant in private media networks (Jan)(Thussu). Technological advancesand socia media The communication ecosystem of the industrial globalized society has been traditionally built on mainstream mass media, principally television, radio and the print press. These technologies have adopted the mass dissemination of a one-way communication from one-to-many. Since t he late 90s, the extensive spread and diffusion of the Internet, mobile technologies, digital media and a diversity of social technological tools throughout the globe has transmuted the one-to-many communication network into interactive horizontal linkages that link the local with the global. New forms of social media (online media tools that enable people to communicate easily with internet to known people or a wider audience), such as text messages, tweets, blogs, communication forums, social networking sites, podcasts and wikis, tailor the flow of messages from many-to-many. This medium has provided alternative means for citizen communication, participatory journalism and globalization. Power-paradigm within mainstream and social media Power has played an important role for mainstream media to create an impact on the society. In his book, Why study the Media?, author Roger Silverstone states that media holds the power to influence and change the political processes(Silverstone). It is about the reach, representation – presenting, revealing and explaining, that gave mainstream media a commanding control over how things are perceived in different types of the world. Similarly, (Volkmer) in his book, News in the Global Sphere: A study of CNN and its Impact on Global Communication, asserts that global political communications such as that of CNN International have been a dominative force in creating a global public sphere and thereby a global civil society. However,

Application of Lactic Acid Bacteria Essay Example for Free

Application of Lactic Acid Bacteria Essay In food industry Recent years the interest increased in using LAB by using bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances (BLIS) because of their potential use as a natural antimicrobial agent to enhance the food safety of food products and increase the nutritional values of the food. Foods that fermented by LAB such as cheese, kimchi, fermented sausages, wine, yogurt and pickles have not only a greatly extended shelf life compared to the raw materials from which they are derived, but also enhance the aroma and flavor directly or indirectly by the fermenting organisms. There have many lactic acid fermentation products that have been used since long time ago such as Kimchi (korea), Yogurt (eastern Europe), Dahi (india n Nepal) and cheese (Europe n middle east). Cheese The basic steps of cheese production are acidification, coagulation, dehydration, and salting. While acid production is the major function of the starter bacteria. LAB is responsible for the fresh acidic flavor of unripened cheese and is important in coagulation of milk casein, which is accomplished by the combined action of the enzyme rennet. During the ripening process the LAB also producing volatile flavor compounds such as diacetyl and aldehydes by releasing proteolytic and lipolytic enzymes involved in cheese ripening and by natural antibiotic substances that suppress growth of pathogens and other spoilage microorganisms. For Cheddar and Colby cheese production, starter cultures include strains of Lactococcus lactis ssp.cremoris and Lactocoocus lactis ssp lactis. While, blue cheese require both and the mold Penicillum roqueforti is also added as a secondary for the flavor and blue color. Health benefits of LAB LAB also known as probiotics because they can promote intestinal balance and strengthen the immune system. Managing Lactose Intolerance -LAB convert lactose into lactic acid, their ingestion may help lactose intolerant individuals tolerate more lactose than what they would have Effective diarrhea relief preventing and shortening the duration of several types of diarrhea LAB compete with pathogens for nutrients and space in the intestines By-products of metabolism may have a direct effect against the pathogens. For example, in vitro work shows that L. casei, L. acidophilus and L. bulgaricus can all produce antimicrobial agents such as acidophilin and bulgarican that can inhibit growth of pathogens Enhance immune system -LAB has been shown to increase B-lymphocytes or B cells, which recognize foreign matter -LAB also increase phagocytic activity which help to destroy foreign matter by the increasing the proportion of T lymphocytes and Natural Killer cells LAB can stimulate the immune activity in the intestinal mucosa and treat -Reducing inflammations and food allergies Potential Benefits Prevention of Colon Cancer: -LAB has ability to bind with carcinogenic substances (anti- carcinogenic effects) that can protect against colon cancer -Lower rates of colon cancer among higher consumers of fermented dairy products have been observed in some population studies However, more long-term studies on human is needed Lowering cholesterol -Lower serum cholesterol levels in animals by breaking down bile in the gut, thus prevent its reabsorption. However, various studies with fermented milk products have shown either no effect or a reduction in cholesterol levels.

Comparative Elegies~Similar or Different? :: essays research papers

An elegy is a poem of lament, usually formal and sustained, over the death of a particular person; also, a meditative poem in plaintive or sorrowful mood. Through an elegy authors are able to convey their deepest remorse and grief through the eloquent use of the English language. Three elegies in which show the possible interpretations and moral convictions of death are â€Å"Elegy for Jane†, â€Å"Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard†, and â€Å"A Satirical Elegy†. Jane's unfortunate death in an equestrian accident prompted one of her professors, the poet Theodore Roethke, to write a moving poem, "Elegy for Jane," recalling his young student and his feelings of grief at her loss. It is very interesting that Jane's death is not the subject of the poem; rather, her death presents an occasion for calling up a certain emotional state in which Roethke's feelings of grief and pity transcend the occasion. This spiritual epitaph is laced with imagery; painting an extremely vivid picture given the details about her image. Roethke associates the deceased with elemental aspects of nature--the plant tendrils, the pickerel smile, trembling twigs, whispers turning into kissing etc. His lines create an amazingly tranquil atmosphere. Her voice is described as if it were perfectly toned; touching everyone that crosses her path of wind. Roethke compares Jane to a wren, a sparrow, a pigeon—all birds which draw forth an emotion. Birds naturally symbolize peace, freedom, and love. The wren represents joyful times, the high moments in Jane’s life; the sparrow however usually represents those who feel they are not worth anything; and pigeons I personally think are trite birds. â€Å"Elegy for Jane† is not the only elegy which incorporates nature into its meaningful lines. â€Å"An Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard† by Thomas Gray is a similar elegy to â€Å"Elegy for Jane† in that it incorporates mother nature and the animal which is most unique to her—the bird: â€Å"The breezy call of incense-breathing morn, The swallow twittering from the straw-built shed, The cock's shrill clarion, or the echoing horn, No more shall rouse them from their lowly bed.† Not only are these elegies similar because of their richness of the language and comparative nature with the outside world but also in that it mourns the death not of great or famous people, but of common men. The speaker of this poem sees a country churchyard at sunset, which impels him to meditate on the essence of human mortality.

Does Social Class Fill The Void - 1364 Words

Does Social Class Fill the Void? It is said that right before someone dies, they see their life flash before their eyes. They are said to see the things most dear to them. However, no one on their deathbed regrets the amount of money they have. In the moment of clarity, most realize that a number on a paycheck is not as important as emotional and mental possessions. People always tell each other that money can not buy happiness, yet most end up spending every waking moment thinking about money. Why do people waste their time and energy pursuing something that is not what they truly need? Often, people use social class to escape a void in their lives that can not be filled with materialistic possessions. Many people realize this rarely†¦show more content†¦For instance, this quote shows that Pip has not been aware that he is of a lower class. Being in the Satis house opens the door to the possibility of achieving a higher social status. Pip has a void in his life, and it is based on the shame he feels about his social standing. This realization is what will start Pip on his social-climbing journey. As time passes, Pip acts on these feelings of incompetence, which are his â€Å"particular reasons for wanting to be a gentleman† (130). To clarify, this evidence proves that Pip is attempting to escape his void of shame with the power of a higher social class. He is trying to stop being ashamed of his origins by leaving them behind. Pip is using higher social status as a means to get away from his problems. For Pip, becoming a gentleman is his escape from the shame he feels. In contrast, at the end of the novel, Pip realizes that working â€Å"pretty hard for a sufficient living† is what truly makes a man â€Å"do well† (496). To further the point, this citation illustrates that Pip realizes that striving for social class is actually making him more unhappy. His constant reaching does not make his shame go away, it only makes it worse. Pip then realizes that an honest, hardworking lifestyle is the only way to make the shame
